John Cena has teased an exciting update on Peacemaker’s future in the DCU, it sounds like he knows he’ll be coming back but doesn’t really know when that’ll be. But seems to be the fact is that John Cena himself is really excited about Christopher Smith’s future in the DCU.
During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, John Cena was asked about Peacemaker’s next appearance in the DCU following the reported two-year time jump in Peacemaker Season 2. While he didn’t reveal anything about his character’s fate, he made it clear that Peacemaker’s fate is ultimately dependent on Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn.
“Anything I would give you would be personal speculation and not on the bullseye… that is a James Gunn question, for sure… I hope I get the helmet pretty soon. I’d love to dance another time.”
The comments imply that Peacemaker is yet to be officially announced for any additional seasons after Season 2. But Cena’s excitement to return indicates that he is committed to the role and is eager to return.
John Cena Leaves Peacemaker’s Future Up to James Gunn
Peacemaker has been a mystery to fans for the DC Universe’s long-term plans ever since his new series premiered. The character will live on from the old DCEU to the DCU and will appear in Peacemaker Season 2, one of the few characters from the rebooted continuity to carry over from the old DCEU.
Cena was not predicting or giving any information regarding what to expect next season, but instead he directed the fans towards Gunn for answers. Since Gunn was a key figure in the development of the DCU, it’s hardly surprising that a lot of the key decisions have not been made public about Peacemaker’s future.
A Return Seems Likely
While Cena didn’t say anything about future projects, his words certainly implied he’d like to keep going with the role. Although the song’s title is “Pants On Fire,” his line about “getting the helmet pretty soon” and “dance another time” refer to the signature costume of Peacemaker and the lovely dance scene at the start of the show.
Since making his debut in The Suicide Squad in 2021, Peacemaker has become one of DC’s most popular live-action characters. The HBO Max series’ success helped to build up the antihero as a fan favorite, and many fans want to see how he’ll be incorporated into Gunn’s wider plans for DCU.
Unconfirmed news will have to wait until James Gunn makes an official statement. However, if Cena gets his wish, it won’t be the last time fans see Peacemaker’s helmet or his dance routine.
What This Means for the DCU
It is clear that Peacemaker Season 2 will be a pivotal moment in the ever-changing DCU universe, and Cena’s remarks suggest that he is supportive of the character’s continued existence in future stories. No further appearances have been revealed but the actor’s gusto for returning opens the door for more Peacemaker stories after Season 2.
